Steve Hobson, Editor, Motor Transport

I have been editor of Motor Transport since 2009 and am responsible for the editorial content especially the features and Viewpoint sections. I am also part of the team that runs the annual Motor Transport Awards that take place in July at London's Grosvenor House Hotel.

Brought up in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, upon leaving school I spent four years as a Merchant Navy deck officer, travelling the world on a variety of Bibby Line ships. After giving up the seafaring life, I completed a BSc in Maritime Studies at Liverpool Polytechnic and began writing for a shipping magazine.

I then began an itinerant career in journalism and PR, which has taken me into diverse markets including transport, grocery retailing, electrical contracting, industrial automation and utilities. I actually worked as a reporter for Motor Transport back in 1989 before returning to the paper 20 years later as editor.

My main hobby is riding and maintaining a small collection of old motorbikes, but I also enjoy watching football, cycling and walking.
