The FTA has hailed new figures showing a dip in HGV greenhouse gas emissions as “a positive and encouraging step” in its bid to help the government achieve its proposed 15% reduction target by 2025.
Two specific issues have been identified with hydrogen that the truck sector needs to deal with: firstly, the development and construction of efficient fuel cells. Then secondly, the distribution of hydrogen to ensure that trucks can be refuelled safely and quickly.
The FTA is urging local authorities to look beyond the “short-lived” benefits of clean air zones (CAZ) and divert funds into helping operators upgrade their fleets rather than penalising them.
